Okay, so when people
think about the 100 they usually think about Clarke, Bellmay, or Lexa right? Or
about the many possible love interest Clarke Griffin has. Well as my first post
about how I feel about these character I chose to write about Jasper.
If you are not caught
up on the series please be wary when reading this because I have a blabber
mouth and may post spoilers without warning.
Okay so here it goes:
I absolutely love
Jasper as a character and a person. He has been through so much it’s a miracle
he has survived. I know the others have been through hell too, but I sort of
favor Jasper. He’s so broken everything in me just wants to reach through the
TV and hold him close and never let him go.
To prove that Jasper
has been through a lot ( and in my eyes a LOT more than a majority of the
characters) we’re going to start off at the beginning. Well, as close to the
beginning I can get because I’m just a terrible writer who will most likely
bounce back and forth .
In the very first
episode of THE 100 Jasper gets a spear through his chest. That has to suck
right? Well that’s not the worst part. He’s then dragged, most likely with the
spear still in him so he doesn’t bleed out, to a new location where the
grounders stop the bleeding so they can tie him up and use him as bait for his
friends.
After he’s rescued
the infection from the wound causes him to be in pain for days before someone (
I won’t name who) threatens to kill him to put him out of his misery. Even
though they don’t show it, it is hinted at that Murphy tries to put Jasper out
of his misery while Clark is out getting medicine.
After getting his
strength back and being able to walk again we see that Jasper clearly has PTSD
and isn’t comfortable leaving the drop ship. He only took a few steps outside
of the camp when he thought Octavia was in danger, and that caused a mini panic
attack that she had to calm him down from.
He then leaves the
camp altogether when Octavia is in actual danger. Then, shortly after Octavia
is rescued he eats hallucinogenic nuts ( which everyone did but I have a point
here) which make him keep seeing grounders! That had to be hard on his mental
state considering it was grounders who put a spear through his chest and strung
him up.
Then, he’s held
hostage by Murphy. Yes, it was temporary, but it still happened. Jasper was
eventually traded for Bellamy, but he was still held at gunpoint by a mad man .
Which is traumatic in any circumstances.
After all of this
Jasper finally makes it to the marvelous mount weather. The place they were supposed
to land on in the first place. For the first time in a long time he has to feel
safe. He has shelter, food , water and even the company of a girl *wink*.
He must have felt so
many things when they finally arrived because he went against Clarke, who has
saved his life in the past. Which, in hindsight was a mistake, but he still
trusted them. He even fell in love with a girl, Maya.
After Clarkes disappearance
and Maya being exposed to radiation the illusion of a safe haven was shattered
and he was shown the harvest chamber. The realization that Clarke had been
right this whole time and he didn’t listen because he was being selfish and
liked the “safety” Mount Weather offered had forced him into the leadership
role. He knew he couldn’t let his people ( the 100) be the next ones in the
harvest chamber. Then when Monty, his closest thing to family, is “missing” he finally snaps. He threatens
the person he thought was protecting them, the mount weather president, with a
sword and makes it clear that he will protect his people.
After Monty’s
recused he decides they should leave, like Clarke did. It must have damaged him
so much when he realized that he went against the one person who was right this
whole time and could have avoided the whole mess if he would have listened.
Due to the change of
leadership the remaining 47 are now prisoners and are being dragged to their
death one by one. Could you imagine the closest thing to family you have being
dragged away to die one by one and you can’t do anything to stop it.
After Clarke returns and everything goes even farther downhill
the girl he loves is killed, along with a lot of others that had tried to
shelter him and the remains of the 100. He holds the body of the girl he loves
as she’s covered with burns from the very thing that doesn’t affect him, radiation.
After his return to
camp, and Clarke leaves so she can face what she’s done on her own he has no
other outlet for his feelings, so he leans on a bottle. Therefore losing any self-control
he thought he had left and turning into a ticking time bomb before taking the “key
to the city of light” to ease his pain. He just wanted to be happy, even though
he knew what he was risking. He just needed a release.
With all of this in
consideration I truly think Jasper has had the most F*cked up experience out of
all of the 100 teenagers sent to the ground.
